Hi, I’m Jessica!
I’ve been crocheting for years, and started tech editing in Fall 2025 after doing courses from The Tech Editor Hub and Cool Wool School. Crochet is by far my favorite of the fiber arts; I love its versatility and its free-spirited nature. There are so many really neat things you can create with it, from delicately draping lace shawls to sturdy backpacks and giant stuffed animals.
I’ve been interested in writing and editing for as long as I can remember. Years ago, I majored in journalism (print emphasis) in college, finishing my degree just as the World Wide Web started gaining popularity. Intrigued, I switched gears and went back to school for a graduate degree in computer science.
After that, I spent more than 20 years working in software testing and test automation. Turns out there’s a lot of overlap between editing a piece of writing and debugging an application; both involve asking questions like Is this correct? Is it easy to understand? Is it useful? Software engineering also gave me insight into how to make a process (or a pattern) flow effectively—and of course, it required plenty of practice with math, formulas and functions.
I left the corporate workforce in 2020 for family reasons, although I did take on a few one-off projects here and there. In early 2025 I decided to return to my editing roots. Like all fiber artists, I know the frustration of trying to follow a pattern that has errors and ambiguities, and I felt I could make an impact in a craft that I love.
My editing philosophy is that I’m here to enhance your work, not overwrite it. I’ll find the “bugs” in your patterns (figuratively speaking, of course!) and make some suggestions, but I strive to make sure your style and your voice are what come through for your customers.
