Before submitting a pattern, please see my AI Policy at the end of this page.
Requirements
- A ready-to-edit version of the pattern. This should include the full steps, pattern notes, list of materials, definitions of special stitches, assembly instructions, etc. It’s fine to leave placeholders for photos, charts and graphics; just keep in mind I won’t be able to check them until I get them.
- Your personal style sheet, if you have one, detailing your preferred terms, abbreviations, formatting, etc.
- If you don’t yet have a style sheet, we can bundle a style sheet creation session with your tech edit for a discounted rate.
- Clear photos of the completed item, including front, back, side and top/bottom views where applicable. For any measurements provided in the pattern, please include a photo with a tape measure or ruler across that dimension. Closeups of styling details are very helpful as well for checking stitch counts and patterns.
Document formats
Patterns
I prefer to edit flattened PDF documents, as that ensures I don’t accidentally make changes to your pattern. I also accept Microsoft Word documents and Google docs. I will send you an annotated copy of the document with corrections and changes.
- Please flatten Canva files when exporting to PDF. (here’s how to do that)
- I don’t accept PowerPoint files, spreadsheets, or links to Canva designs. Please save or export these to one of my accepted formats before sending them.
Style sheet
Your style sheet can be any of the formats that I accept for patterns. The client style sheets I keep on file are Microsoft Word documents so that I can easily update them. If there are any changes to be made, I will send you an updated copy too.
Photos
Your photos should be either .jpg, .png or .gif format, and high enough resolution that I can zoom in on details as needed.
AI Policy
I do not accept AI-generated patterns for editing.
Specifically, I mean patterns where any content necessary for completing the object has been generated wholly or in part by an AI service. I reserve the right to cancel editing of any pattern that falls under that description.
By “AI service” I mean services like Claude, ChatGPT, Midjourney, and others. This also includes AI services embedded in other apps like Canva, Microsoft Office, Google, etc. This is not an exhaustive list and I reserve the right to add services to it as I encounter them.
By “content necessary for completing the object” I mean pattern instructions, photos, notes, assembly, charts, graphics, schematics, and other necessary information. I reserve the right to add additional types of content to this list for specific patterns.
I am happy to elaborate further on this policy and/or discuss specific situations. Please contact me if you have any questions.
